1983

[Intro, spoken]

Nineteen-eighty-three, one of the last days of December- just after Christmas, just before New Years. Small town, we were bored. There was nothing to do. In the evening, we got quite drunk and we stole a boat and went for a trip on the lake. And that was a bad idea; two of us got in a fight, one went overboard, and within seconds, he was gone
[Chorus]

You’d better stay away from me

I’ll drag you into crime

You’d better stay away from me

I was brokеn in my primeDon’t believе a word I say

I’m fake to the bone

Don’t you rely on me

You’re better off alone

[Interlude, spoken]

The next morning at the first break of day, we went looking for him. But there was no clue of him. We didn’t dare say anything, and with his parents gone for the holidays, no one was missing him. A couple days later, winter really hit hard and the lake was covered with a thick layer of ice. And a couple months later, when spring came and the ice melted away, there was still no sign of him. It was like he dissolved or had been eaten by some big fish[Chorus]

You’d better stay away from me

I’ll drag you into crime

You’d better stay away from me

I was broken in my primeDon’t believe a word I say

I’m fake to the bone

Don’t you rely on me

You’re better off alone[Bridge]

Just try for once to be straight and tell it to my face

Would you believe in me?

Just try for once to be straight and tell it to my face

Would you believe in me?[Chorus]

You’d better stay away from me

I’ll drag you into crime

You’d better stay away from me

I was broken in my prime

Don’t believe a word I say

I’m fake to the bone

Don’t you rely on me

You’re better off aloneYou’d better stay away from me

I’ll drag you into crime

You’d better stay away from me

I was broken in my primeDon’t believe a word I say

I’m fake to the bone

Don’t you rely on me

You’re better off alone
