About This Song
About "This Cup" by Sara Groves
A cup that is not passed, but held. Groves's voice is steady, almost resigned, over a bed of muted piano. The tension is between the desire to flee and the decision to stay—a Gethsemane moment rendered in domestic terms. You can hear the swallow before the sip.
