About This Song
About "Anna Bolena - Tragedia lirica in due atti / Act 1 : Donizetti: Anna Bolena - Tragedia lirica in due atti / Act 1: Deh! non voler costringere" by Beverly Sills
Sills's plea 'Deh! non voler costringere' is a masterclass in desperate grace, each ornament a tear frozen mid-fall. The orchestra's gentle pulse contrasts with the iron will of the text, capturing Anne's impossible choice between obedience and annihilation—a lullaby sung at the scaffold's edge.
