About This Song
About "Kindertotenlieder: Nun will die Sonn' so hell aufgeh'n!" by Christian Gerhaher
Mahler opens with a sunrise that should console but instead indicts: light pours through the window while a father's grief curdles. Gerhaher's voice is a held breath, luminous yet hollowed, tracing the unbearable gap between the sun's indifference and the small, absent face it illuminates.
