Lyrics
If along the road you hear two dark horses pass
Lock the doors and bar the windows
'Cause any look that you dare to take
Will surely be your last
For the boldest hearts have turned to cinders
Squire James found the flame of love in a young girl's eyes
His wife caught him in the barn and she burned them both alive
Some nights when the moon grows pale they come out to ride
The squire's wife tucked into bed that night
She woke with a scream and a terrible fright
They found her later with her hair turned white
Mad as a hatter
From beneath the ashes came a strange and mournful wail
Unholy rumble of infernal voices
Ground shook when smoldering forms like furies born in hell
Came riding up astride two demon horses
Squire James found the flame of love in a young girl's eyes
His wife caught him in the barn and she burned them both alive
Some nights when the moon grows pale they come out to ride
The squire's wife tucked into bed that night
She woke with a scream and a terrible fright
They found her later with her hair turned white
Mad as a hatter
So don't go alone in the dark at night
You could lose your life, maybe lose your mind
Or fall in the wake of the horses' stride
Fire-branding saddle
Squire James found the flame of love in a young girl's eyes
His wife caught him in the barn and she burned them both alive
Some nights when the moon grows pale they come out to ride
The squire's wife tucked into bed that night
She woke with a scream and a terrible fright
They found her later with her hair turned white
Mad as a hatter
So don't go alone in the dark at night
You could lose your life, maybe lose your mind
