About This Song
About "Rückert-Lieder: Ich atmet einen linden Duft" by Christian Gerhaher
A breath of linden scent becomes a ghostly visitation in Mahler's Rückert setting. Gerhaher floats the melody with weightless tenderness, the piano's shimmer suggesting a memory half-dissolved. The emotional tension is gossamer: sweetness laced with the knowledge that such fragrance, once inhaled, can never be reclaimed.
