About This Song
About "Der Freischütz: Einst träumte meiner sel´gen Base" by Chor Der Staatsoper Dresden
From Der Freischütz, this aria is a ghost story in miniature—Einst träumte meiner sel’gen Base floats between dream and dread. The Dresden chorus swells like a dark forest, the soprano’s line a thread of silver through the trees. It’s Romantic unease, beautifully poised.
