About "I Come And Stand At Every Door" by Anne Hills
Anne Hills inhabits Pete Seeger's antiwar lament with devastating stillness, letting the child's-eye refrain hang in the air like smoke. The folk arrangement is spare and grave, every phrase weighted by history. The tension is unbearable: a gentle melody carrying the heaviest possible message, calm voice against the world's recurring cruelty.
