About "String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor, D. 810 "Death and the Maiden" : Schubert: String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor, D. 810 "Death and the Maiden": I. Allegro" by Amadeus Quartet

Schubert's death-haunted Allegro opens with a violent knock: fate at the door. The Amadeus Quartet renders the maiden's terror in trembling violins, a calm Andante that never quite settles. Vivid tension—beauty stalked by shadow—makes this a Romantic thriller in miniature, all pulse and dread.
