About This Song
About "Thiaroye" by Baaba Maal
Named for a historic massacre, ‘Thiaroye’ is a slow-burning elegy. Maal’s tremulous tenor floats over sparse, minor-key guitar, each note a grain of sand on a wound. The calm is deceptive; grief simmers beneath every phrase.
