About "Purcell: In the Midst of Life We Are in Death, Z. 17b" by Charles Daniels
Purcell’s funeral sentence sets a stark truth: ‘In the midst of life we are in death.’ The music is a slow, somber march, the tenor’s voice a solitary bell tolling over a bed of strings. Daniels finds the fragile humanity beneath the liturgy, a whisper against the void.
