About This Song
About "12 Lieder von Franz Schubert, S. 558: No. 8, Gretchen am Spinnrade (After Schubert's Op. 2, D. 118)" by Barry Douglas
Liszt's transcription of Schubert's Gretchen spins a wheel of obsessive love. Douglas captures the piano's relentless whir—a spinning song that is both domestic and feverish. The melody yearns while the accompaniment churns, a portrait of longing trapped in its own motion.
