About This Song
About "Well You Need't" by Cecil Payne
Thelonious Monk's angular classic gets a sly reading from Payne. 'Well You Need't' teases with off-kilter rhythms, a playful dissonance that feels like a wink. The saxophone dances around the beat, embodying the title's cheeky defiance.
