About This Song
About "Porpora: Perdono, amata Nice "La gelosia": V. Aria. "Giura il nocchier, che al mare"" by Artaserse
Porpora's setting of the same jealous oath finds Artaserse in more volatile waters. The voice leaps and plunges through treacherous intervals, mirroring a sailor's vow sworn on a storm-tossed deck. The aria's beauty is laced with unease, as if calm seas could break into squall at any moment.
