About "Orlando, HWV 31 / Act 1 : Handel: Orlando, HWV 31 / Act 1: Ritornava al suo bel viso" by Arleen Augér
In this Orlando excerpt, Augér’s soprano returns to a beloved’s face with hushed wonder. The ritornello wraps around her like a memory, and her phrasing is both precise and dreamlike. The tension is subtle: the beauty of the recollection against the opera’s undercurrent of lost reason—a fragile idyll held in amber.
