About "The Music of Upstairs and Downstairs: The Kindertransport (I Vow to Thee My Country)" by Carl Davis
Davis weaves 'I Vow to Thee My Country' into the Kindertransport's ache, strings swelling like a tide of displaced children. The hymn's patriotism turns elegiac—a promise made in a train station, swallowed by history. Calm surfaces, but underneath: the tremble of goodbye, the weight of a suitcase.
