About "Baby Please Don't Go" by Big Maybelle
On 'Baby Please Don't Go,' Big Maybelle takes a familiar plea and makes it sound like a new wound. Her voice is a raw nerve, trembling with a desperation that's both ancient and immediate. The band churns behind her like a muddy river, and she stands at the edge, begging the water not to rise.
