About "Elijah, Op. 70, MWV A25 - German Text / Part 1 : Mendelssohn: Elijah, Op. 70, MWV A25 - German Text / Part 1: No. 18: "Weh ihnen, daß sie von mir weichen!"" by Annelies Burmeister
A stern warning from Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Annelies Burmeister’s mezzo cuts through the orchestra like a blade of moral clarity. The German text ‘Weh ihnen’ becomes a trembling indictment, her tone balancing Baroque gravity with Romantic fervor—a moment of divine rebuke that feels both ancient and urgently present.
