About This Song
About "Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 1 : J.S. Bach: Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 1: No. 6, Aria. Buss und Reu (Alto)" by Anne Sofie Von Otter
Bach’s ‘Buss und Reu’ is penitence distilled: von Otter’s alto sighs through the aria like a tear sliding down stone. The continuo pulses with restrained grief, while her voice—rich, contrite—makes repentance feel less like duty than a heartfelt, almost sensual surrender. Sacred music that aches with human frailty.
