Sports Car

Back in the spring of '81
You had a boy, yeah, you had a son
What you wanted was a sports car
What you wanted was a sports car

5 years later to the day
You lean down to your son and say
"Son, play with these toy cars"
While your mother looks at sports cars

Now that son, he's turning 18
He likes girls and fast machines
But he can't afford a sports car
No he can't afford a sports car

Soon that son, he turns 25
You sit him down, "Listen up, let me give you some advice"
Buy yourself a sports car
Life's better with a sports car

Son, your daddy, he ain't around
He left town when he found
Out you weren't a sports car
Found out you weren't a sports car

I can tell you now 'cause you're a grown man
When you were first born, I almost named you Trans Am
What I wanted was a sports car
Found out you weren't a sports car

Now she's getting old, she's almost 66
And that old Chevrolet is up on bricks
And she never owned a sports car
No, she never owned a sports car

I know you look at me
I know you look at me
I know you look at me
And you wish I was a sports car
