About "Préludes, Book 2, CD 131 : Debussy: Préludes, Book 2, CD 131: IX. Hommage à S. Pickwick, Esq., P.P.M.P.C." by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli
Debussy’s homage to Mr. Pickwick is a wry, pompous little march, Michelangeli playing the gentleman’s self-importance with a wink. Beneath the comic exterior, a hollow formality—the tension of a man performing his own dignity. It’s charming, but the charm is a shield.
