About This Song
About "Bizet: Carmen, WD 31, Act 1: "Avec la garde montante" (Chœur d’enfants, Moralès, José)" by Georges Prêtre
Children's voices march in bright, clipped unison, a toy-soldier procession that feels both innocent and ominous. Prêtre balances the chorus's chatter with Morales's wary interjections, the square's bustle masking a current of unease. Bizet's tune is a sugar-coated warning.
