About "Lucia di Lammermoor / Part 2 / Act 2 : Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor / Part 2 / Act 2: "Oh, giusto cielo!" - "Il dolce suono"" by Beverly Sills
Donizetti's mad scene begins with a cry to heaven before dissolving into the famous 'Il dolce suono.' Sills traces Lucia's descent with terrifying elegance, her coloratura a glass thread shattering in slow motion. The flute echoes her voice like a ghostâsweetness and horror entwined in one unbroken breath.
