About "Kipling Theme" by Kamasi Washington
Kamasi Washington's 'Kipling Theme' is a cinematic sprawl: saxophone lines unfurl like smoke over a city skyline, drums pulse with restrained urgency. The title suggests a character's interiority—a private theme for a public struggle—and Washington gives it the weight of a modern jazz elegy, both mournful and resilient.
