About This Song
About "6 Variations in F Major, Op. 34 : Beethoven: 6 Variations in F Major, Op. 34: Var. 5. Marcia. Allegretto" by Alfred Brendel
A march, Allegrettoâbut not a triumphant one. The fifth variation steps forward with hushed ceremony, Brendel's left hand a distant drum, the right a flag half-furled. There's tension between civic duty and a longing to break ranks.
