About "Maxwell Davies: Ave Maria, Op. 17, "Hail, blessed flower"" by Chichester Cathedral Choir
Davies's setting of the Ave Maria blooms with luminous, modern harmony, the choir's voices rising like incense in a stone nave. There's a tension between reverent stillness and aching longing, each 'Hail, blessed flower' suspended in air—a prayer that feels both ancient and startlingly new.
