About This Song
About "Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 2 : J.S. Bach: Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 2: No. 59, Recit. Ach Golgatha (Alto)" by Christa Ludwig
Recitative at Golgotha: the alto's voice hovers over a sparse, dissonant landscape, naming the place of the skull. Ludwig's tone is a shadow stretching across dry earth. The harmonic tension never resolves, leaving the listener suspended between horror and awe.
