About This Song
About "Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 1 : J.S. Bach: Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244, Pt. 1: No. 5, Recit. Du lieber Heiland du (Alto)" by Christa Ludwig
Bach's recitative for alto becomes a private prayer, Ludwig's tone hushed yet piercing. The strings hover like breath on cold glass—'du lieber Heiland' addressed to a savior who feels impossibly near and impossibly distant, grief and trust locked in a single suspended chord.
