About "Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 1 : Handel: Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 1: 14. "There were shepherds ... And suddenly there"" by Arleen Augér
Handel's recitative paints the night sky over Bethlehem: shepherds abiding, then a sudden angelic blaze. Augér's delivery is intimate yet charged, the calm of the field shattered by a voice of light. The tension between ordinary night and divine interruption is palpable.
