About This Song
About "Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 1 : Handel: Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 1: 8. "Behold, a virgin shall conceive"" by Anne Sofie Von Otter
Handel's sacred text becomes a moment of hushed prophecy in von Otter's hands. The recitative is delivered with a grave, luminous clarity, each word weighted with centuries of meaning. The orchestration is sparse, allowing the voice to float like a solitary candle in a vast cathedral.
