About This Song
About "Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 2 : Handel: Messiah, HWV 56 / Pt. 2: 30. "But thou didst not leave"" by Arleen Augér
The recitative 'But thou didst not leave' turns sorrow toward promise. Augér's voice is a quiet lamp in the dark, each word measured and warm. The calm is not passive but resolute—a still point where grief and hope hold their breath together before the aria's release.
