About This Song
About "Kindertotenlieder : Mahler: Kindertotenlieder: No. 1, Nun will die Sonn' so hell aufgeh'n" by Anne Sofie Von Otter
The first of Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder: a mother watches dawn break, unable to share its light. Von Otter’s mezzo is a veil of grief, her phrasing fragile as a held breath. Boulez’s orchestra glows with muted warmth, making the song’s central tension—radiance versus despair—almost unbearable.
