About This Song
About "Kindertotenlieder : Mahler: Kindertotenlieder: No. 4, Oft denk' ich, sie sind nur ausgegangen" by Anne Sofie Von Otter
The fourth Kindertotenlied offers a fragile consolation: ‘They’ve only gone out.’ Von Otter’s mezzo is a mother’s forced calm, each phrase a tightrope walk over sorrow. The orchestra swells with deceptive warmth, and the song’s tension—hope against knowledge—hangs in the air like a child’s forgotten coat.
