About This Song
About "A boy was born, Op. 3 : Britten: A boy was born, Op. 3: Variation 5: In The Bleak Mid-Winter" by Choir Of King's College, Cambridge
Britten’s take on the beloved carol is frostbitten and spare. The choir’s voices hang in cold air, each phrase a shiver. It’s a bleak midwinter indeed—tender but haunted, the warmth of the manger offset by a pervasive, icy stillness.
