About "Funky Blues" by Charlie Parker
The blues get funky, but not comfortably so. Parker's horn digs into a gritty, slow-burning groove, each phrase a brick in a wall of swagger and sorrow. The ensemble churns with earthy power, yet a nervous energy flickers—joy and menace sharing the same bed.
