About "Lieder ohne Worte IV, Op. 53 : Mendelssohn: Lieder ohne Worte IV, Op. 53: I. Andante con moto, MWV U143" by Daniel Barenboim
The opening of Op. 53 finds Barenboim in reflective mode: an Andante con moto that moves like water over smooth stones. The melody is deceptively simple, its warmth undercut by a harmonic restlessness—a serene surface with currents pulling elsewhere.
