About "6 Kinderstücke Op. 72 : Mendelssohn: 6 Kinderstücke Op. 72: V. Allegro assai, MWV U 166" by Daniel Barenboim
Allegro assai bursts forth with the glee of recess. Barenboim's fingers sprint through Mendelssohn's toy-box counterpoint, all elbows and laughter. But the relentless pace hints at something manic—joy pushed to the brink of exhaustion, a game that won't stop.
