About "6 Kinderstücke Op. 72 : Mendelssohn: 6 Kinderstücke Op. 72: I. Allegro non troppo, MWV U 171" by Daniel Barenboim
Mendelssohn's child's play opens with a skipping, unforced gait. Barenboim teases out the innocence without saccharine, each phrase a toy boat on a stream—pleasant, but with an undercurrent of adult knowing that makes the simplicity ache.
